Every version runs the same NXSgate software, so you can try it in a VM first and move to hardware later.

These are our planned minimums for Community Edition. We'll confirm them when the first release ships.
64-bit x86 with 2 cores. A CPU with AES-NI makes VPN and TLS inspection a lot faster.
4 GB to get started. 8 GB if you plan to turn on TLS inspection.
20 GB for the system and local logs. Add more if you want to keep logs for longer.
At least two network ports: one facing the internet and one for your LAN.
A firewall sits in front of everything else, so you should know exactly what you're installing. Each release will come with:
